Why We’re Here

In November 2019, Mike George transitioned from this earthly place to his heavenly home. And those closest to him were devastated. And asked a million whys. And cried at least a million tears. And tried to make sense out of what and how and where our lives would be without him and his smile, laugh, bear hugs, stories, playfulness, fearlessness, words of wisdom, encouragement, unconditional love, food photos and debates.

Sometimes Mike played too much. Occasionally he had a lot to say. Other times getting him to talk was like pulling teeth. Individually we witnessed Mike’s growth into a sincere, thoughtful, kind, helpful, young man full of integrity, confidence and love for the Lord and his fellow man. He had a way of making us feel that we were important. That who we are and what we do matter. And that we are greater, better and bigger than we give ourselves permission to be.

Mike was self-taught (computer visual arts, photography, painting). He had a big heart and dropped seeds of encouragement to those around him. His aim was to be a blessing to everyone he came in contact with. To be successful at everything he put his heart, mind and hands to. And to leave you curious enough to want to take part in the blessed life you saw him live out faithfully every day. He may not have always said what you wanted to hear, but you could always depend on his encouraging words—and that smile—to get you through. And he was always thinking of ways to apply whatever time, talents and relationships he had to benefit those around him. Not for recognition or compensation, but simply for the internal affirmation that through his actions, he helped bring the kingdom of heaven closer to earth.

Those of us who have had the pleasure of being a part of Mike George’s life will share a forever void, full of stories and memories that will keep us inspired and glad for the opportunity to have known him. We’d like to continue to celebrate his life by pursuing the blessings, encouragement and compassion he so freely exposed to others. And we’ll do it through Mike George Mission, an organization designed to maintain and advance the work and projects that were near and dear to his heart. The goals: To never forget Mike George. And, to continue to spread Mike’s legacy by blessing others as he would have done.
